Hankook Tire & Technology (hereinafter Hankook Tire) announced on the 16th that it will supply the high-performance sports tire 'Ventus S1 evo Z' as an original equipment tire for the 7th generation BMW M5 high-performance sedan.
BMW enhanced overall performance by adopting a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system for the first time in the 7th generation M5 model. As the vehicle's weight increased, tires capable of withstanding high loads while maximizing the vehicle's characteristics in various road conditions were required. To meet this need, Hankook Tire developed the 'Ventus S1 evo Z' optimized for the M5 in collaboration with BMW.
In product development, Hankook Tire focused on perfectly delivering the unique driving dynamics of a high-performance sedan while reducing fuel consumption through low rolling resistance. After approximately three years of development, the tire earned BMW's original tire symbol, the 'Starmark.'
The 'Ventus S1 evo Z' was developed to provide high steering stability even under increased loads. The wide contact area and the broad spacing between tread blocks maintain excellent handling performance. The reinforced aramid hybrid belt enhances performance on dry roads. It minimizes unnecessary tire deformation caused by centrifugal or lateral forces during high-speed driving.
The tread uses a dedicated material precisely customized to the BMW M5's handling characteristics, and AI-supported algorithms were applied during the product development driving tests. Through this, a vast amount of data was collected under numerous conditions in virtual environments and racing tracks to secure optimal handling performance.
