'2024 Gangwon Artists Festival' Opens in Chuncheon from the 18th

Over 50 Performances and Exhibitions in 3 Days... More than 700 Artists Take the Stage
Diverse Performances Including Gugak, Classical, and Busking Across Chuncheon Sicheon Area

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on the 14th that the ‘2024 2nd Gangwon Artists Hanmadang Event’ for the harmony, communication, and empathy of Gangwon artists and residents will be held for three days starting from the 18th around Chuncheon City Hall.

Now in its second year, the “Gangwon Artists Hanmadang” is an expanded version of the Culture Day event that was held annually by rotating through cities and counties. It is a core pledge project of Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and has established itself as the official Culture Month event of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province led by Gangwon artists.


This year’s event is hosted by Gangwon Province and Chuncheon City and organized by the Chuncheon Cultural Foundation. Under the theme , it will present messages to artists who have preserved the spirit of art with dedication and affection in an era when local unique cultures are threatened, through various contents and programs such as Korean traditional music, classical music, and busking.


On the first day of the event, the 18th, starting with the Gangwon Minyechong Pungmulgut under the theme ‘Connections Through Art,’ local art groups such as Dudastreet, Gangwon Arts Association Dance Association and Music Association, Chuncheon Arts Association, graffiti art performances, Deokho’s Band, Team Clown, and Nokwoo will take the stage to enliven the atmosphere.


The second day (19th) is ‘Night of Harmony Together,’ featuring the 66th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Culture Awards and awards ceremony for contributors to cultural and artistic promotion, along with congratulatory performances and commemorative performances by the Gangwon Provincial Korean Traditional Orchestra, Gangwon Arts Association, and Chuncheon City Korean Traditional Orchestra, showcasing diverse performances by local art groups.


The third day (20th), themed ‘Everyday Dyed with Art,’ offers residents a time to discover and enjoy art in urban spaces, with stages prepared by artists such as Gangwon Arts Association Korean Traditional Music Hanmadang, Chuncheon Minyechong, Clown Jin, Sobo, Ilgopsiban, and Hunnams.


In addition, performances by artists from the Jaraseom Jazz Festival, an exhibition by artists affiliated with Chuncheon Minyechong under the theme ‘Dreaming Chuncheon,’ the ‘Chuncheon Arts Forum’ themed ‘Why Art Is Needed in the City,’ as well as various side events including experiential programs with local brands, flea markets, and food art stalls will be held.


Yoon Seung-gi, Director of Culture and Sports Bureau of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, said, “We will continue to strive to create a society where artists who quietly follow their own paths are recognized,” and added, “I hope this opportunity will be a time for residents and artists gathered in one place to become one through culture and art and to foster an art future that is truly Gangwon.”


Meanwhile, the 3rd Gangwon Artists Hanmadang in 2025 is scheduled to be held in Hoengseong County.
