More Than Half of the Deceased Are Farmers
In Bangladesh, nearly 300 people have been reported dead due to lightning strikes over the past eight months this year.
In Bangladesh, deaths caused by lightning frequently occur during the transition from the dry season to the rainy season.
According to local media on the 6th, the local organization "Safety Society and Thunderstorm Awareness Forum" (SSTF), which has been monitoring lightning damage since 2019, held a press conference in the capital Dhaka yesterday and announced that from February to September, a total of 297 people lost their lives to lightning strikes, including 242 men and 55 women.
In particular, SSTF explained that more than half of the deceased (152 people) were farmers who died while working in the fields, and during the same period, 73 people were injured by lightning.
By month, May recorded the highest number of deaths with 96, followed by June (77), September (47), July (19), and August (17).
