Starting Next Year, Vehicle Idling Restrictions Across Incheon... Including Two-Wheelers

Starting next year, idling of cars and motorcycles will be restricted throughout Incheon (only Yeongheung-myeon in Ongjin-gun is included).

On the 4th, Incheon City announced that from January 1, 2025, existing idling restriction areas such as terminals, parking lots, and multi-use facilities will be designated as "priority idling restriction areas" for special management, and the idling restriction areas for vehicles will be expanded to cover the entire Incheon area.

Previously, the city also amended the "Ordinance on Restriction of Vehicle Idling" to implement this.

In particular, starting next year, motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles will be included in the idling restriction targets, and the idling restriction time will be strengthened from the existing 3 minutes to 2 minutes. However, if the ambient temperature is below 5℃ or above 25℃, the allowed idling time is within 5 minutes. If the regulation is violated, a fine of 50,000 KRW will be imposed on the vehicle driver.

To promote the changes related to vehicle idling starting next year, the city conducted joint crackdowns and campaigns with district offices at 15 locations including terminals, parking lots, and multi-use facilities from the 23rd of last month until recently.

An official from Incheon City stated, "Due to increased complaints about exhaust fumes and noise caused by idling in residential areas and delivery motorcycles, we have expanded the targets and areas for idling restrictions," and urged citizens to "actively cooperate for health and air quality improvement."
