On the 26th, Yongin City announced that the self-sufficiency work group held an opening ceremony for the third branch of "Bapgwa Hamkkeramyeon," established at 210 Samga-dong to create jobs and support economic independence for low-income vulnerable groups. The opening ceremony was attended by Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin, city council members, and representatives from Yongin YMCA, the corporation operating the local self-sufficiency center.

"Bapgwa Hamkkeramyeon" was first introduced in August 2018 in Dongbaek-dong, Giheung-gu, and following the opening of the second branch (Dongbaek Hosu branch) in October last year, the number of stores has increased to three. Notably, after the first branch opened, this project, supported by the city, enhanced its self-reliance capabilities, grew into a market-entry type snack business group as sales increased, and became an independent self-sufficiency enterprise in August last year.

Mayor Lee said, "Bapgwa Hamkkeramyeon, along with various self-sufficiency projects promoted by the city, will become a successful case of self-sufficiency projects in South Korea. Through excellent self-sufficiency projects, we will create good jobs and support making Yongin a warm community where all citizens can be happy."

The newly opened third branch received 60 million KRW in project funds from the Korea Self-Sufficiency Welfare Development Institute, an additional 60 million KRW from Yongin City's self-sufficiency fund, and 10 million KRW from the Yongin Regional Self-Sufficiency Center activation support fund to cover equipment, supplies, and facility construction. The store interior was handled by Hanuri Architecture Co., Ltd., a self-sufficiency enterprise, establishing a virtuous cycle structure for creating social jobs and economic independence. Ten self-sufficiency workers participate in store operations.

Here, in addition to the "Joayang Gimbap" and "Hwanayang Gimbap" introduced at the first and second branches, a special menu item called "Danggeun Rape Gimbap" has been developed and is sold. Profits are used for expenses necessary for store operation and self-sufficiency activation support funds, and remaining profits are paid as incentives to self-sufficiency workers.

A city official said, "Recipes, operational know-how, and franchise inquiries for Bapgwa Hamkkeramyeon are continuing from other regions. We will prepare education to strengthen the capabilities of participants dreaming of independence and establish various support measures to help them succeed in economic independence."

Meanwhile, the city has applied for trademark registration with the Korean Intellectual Property Office to brand and increase the recognition of Bapgwa Hamkkeramyeon.
