This year, only three local governments nationwide received the Presidential Award, with Nam-gu being the sole recipient in Daegu.
The Apsan tourism content in Daegu Nam-gu, which won this year's Presidential Award, was developed in connection with Apsan Park?a natural tourist resource selected as one of the "2023-2024 Korea Tourism Top 100"?as well as the Apsan Sunset Observatory, Apsan Sky Bridge, and Apsan Laundry Park, where visitors can enjoy panoramic night views of downtown Daegu.
The main tourism content includes the region's first "Apsan Santa Village Creation and Apsan Christmas Festival," themed around Christmas?a universal sentiment beyond religion; the first "Apsan Sunset Festival" commemorating the last day of the year; and the "Apsan Festival," held in collaboration with various local coffee brands along the Apsan Cafe Street. The development of diverse tourism products utilizing Apsan, a healing space within the city, has greatly contributed to revitalizing the local economy.
Daegu Nam-gu received high praise for raising nationwide awareness of the scenic beauty of the Apsan area through the development of diverse tourism content, attracting external tourists, revitalizing local businesses, and expanding cultural enjoyment opportunities for local residents.
Following its selection as a "2018 Korea Tourism Star" and inclusion in the "2023-24 Korea Tourism Top 100," Daegu Nam-gu has further solidified its status as a leading tourism city by winning the Presidential Award at the 20th Korea Local Government Management Awards for revitalizing the local economy through the development of Apsan tourism content.
Cho Jaegu, head of Daegu Nam-gu District Office, stated, "This award is especially meaningful as it recognizes the unique tourism content developed in connection with Nam-gu's distinctive resources.
