Gwangjin-gu Operates 'Senior Dining Day and Companion Restaurant'

On the 10th, Daehan Senior Citizens Association Gwangjin-gu Branch, Korea Foodservice Industry Association Gwangjin-gu Branch Sign Tripartite Agreement
Providing Dining Opportunities for Seniors and Revitalizing Local Economy by Expanding Lunch Service at Senior Centers
Voucher Cards Usable Five Times a Week at Donghaeng Restaurant Also Provided to Seniors at Risk of Malnutrition

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 10th with the Gwangjin Branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association and the Gwangjin Branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association for the operation of ‘Dining Out Day and Companion Restaurant’ programs.


This agreement was established as a result of the three organizations joining hands to increase dining-out opportunities for senior citizens, provide balanced meals, and revitalize the local economy, following the expansion of lunch provision at senior centers to five days a week.


The ceremony was held with the attendance of Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, Hwang Gap-seok, Head of the Gwangjin Branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, and Pyo Seong-ja, Head of the Gwangjin Branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association, proceeding in the order of greetings, business consultations, and signing of the agreement.

The main contents of the agreement include ▲(Gwangjin-gu) administrative support for senior-preferred businesses application and reception, provision of lunch five days a week at senior centers, and operation of companion restaurants ▲(Korea Senior Citizens Association Gwangjin Branch) encouragement of senior citizens’ participation in ‘Dining Out Day’ at senior centers ▲(Korea Foodservice Industry Association Gwangjin Branch) provision of senior discount benefits, recruitment guidance for foodservice businesses, and promotion of the Gwangjin Companion Restaurant project.


Accordingly, Gwangjin-gu will support seniors to dine twice a month at nearby restaurants or order delivery meals per senior center, and for seniors at risk of meal deprivation, voucher cards usable once a day at nearby companion restaurants will be provided to ensure a hearty meal five days a week.


Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I thank the Korea Senior Citizens Association Gwangjin Branch and the Korea Foodservice Industry Association Gwangjin Branch for their mutual support to enable seniors to dine not only at senior centers but also at nearby restaurants. We will continue to actively discover customized projects to improve welfare for vulnerable groups and do our best to make Gwangjin-gu a happy place for all residents.”
