Winning Design Selected for Daejeon Medical Center; Completion Set for 2029

Eco-Friendly Design and Easy Patient Flow... 319 Beds Across 7 Above-Ground Floors

Winning Design Selected for Daejeon Medical Center; Completion Set for 2029 Winning Design Proposal for the Construction of Daejeon Medical Center / Daejeon City

Daejeon City announced that it has selected the winning design for the construction project of Daejeon Medical Center.

The winning entry is a joint submission by Hyunsin Architects & Engineers, which has extensive experience and achievements in hospital design, and the local firm DNB Architects. The design was praised for its user-centered approach that is friendly to the natural environment.

Despite the rectangular site with significant elevation differences, the design was highly rated for providing various access routes and considering the future expandability of the hospital. The easy circulation for medical services and the walking trails utilizing forest paths also received positive evaluations.

Daejeon Medical Center will be built at 11 Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, across from Daejeon University. With a total investment of 175.9 billion KRW, the facility will have two underground floors and seven above-ground floors, a total floor area of 33,148 square meters, and 319 beds. Completion is targeted for 2029.

The city plans to proceed with the basic design service with the winning firms starting in October for about seven months. Based on the project cost calculated through this service, Daejeon City will consult with the Ministry of Economy and Finance in 2025 to adjust the total project cost, after which full-scale construction will begin.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "Daejeon Medical Center is a long-cherished project of Daejeon City to prepare for the next 100 years of public healthcare." He added, "To provide smooth public medical services in the future, relevant regulations for national operating cost support are necessary, and for this, cooperation among the public sector, private sector, and local political circles is essential."
