On the day, Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, signed the MOU with Piotr Wojtek, chairman of WB Group, to review the establishment of a local joint venture (JV) based on this agreement.
The two companies agreed to consider local production of the CGR-80, an 80km-range guided missile, which is a Polish improved version of the Cheonmu called 'HOMAR-K.' WB Group currently supplies the HOMAR-K with an automatic fire control system and communication equipment.
Hanwha Aerospace plans to strengthen localization and expand exports to Europe. This strategy aims to respond to the defense bloc formation among European countries seeking to increase the use of weapon systems within the European Union (EU) and to establish a foothold for targeting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) market. So far, Hanwha Aerospace has signed export contracts with Poland for 290 Cheonmu launchers and CGR-80 and 290km-range guided missiles (CTM-290).
CEO Son Jae-il said, "Through localization, we will actively respond to Europe's security needs, strengthen our position as a global defense company, and contribute to the alliance between the Republic of Korea and Poland."
