On the 4th, the National Intellectual Property Committee held the 7th Intellectual Property Day ceremony at EL Tower in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and awarded commendations to key contributors.
Han Duck-soo, Prime Minister and co-chairman, delivered a commemorative speech read by Ryu Kwang-jun, Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stating, "Intellectual property is a core asset that determines national competitiveness, and we are focusing policy capabilities across the entire cycle from creation to utilization and protection of intellectual property rights." He added, "Based on our outstanding technological capabilities and innovation capacity, we will lead a new knowledge-based economic order."
Lee Kwang-hyung, a private member of the National Intellectual Property Committee, said, "I hope there will be a consensus that intellectual property drives innovation throughout society and provides new vitality to the national economy."
Meanwhile, at the event, Park Sung-ik, senior researcher at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), received the Prime Minister's Commendation for his contribution in recording about 600 core patents related to ultra-high-definition (UHD) transmission and reception technology and technology transfers worth 1.34 billion KRW to domestic companies.
Kang Hyo-won, a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association and chief planner for BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan), received the Intellectual Property Committee Chairman's Commendation for his contributions to the domestic music industry.
Intellectual Property Day is a legally designated commemorative day established to raise awareness of the importance of intellectual property. It was set on September 4th, the day when the Jikji Simche Yojeol, the oldest extant metal-printed book, was registered as a UNESCO Memory of the World.
