Broadcasting Review Committee "Expecting Hotline Establishment and Cooperative Relationship"
Telegram, identified as a distribution channel for illegal deepfake composite materials, has reportedly deleted all videos that our government urgently requested to be removed.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) announced on the 3rd, "Telegram deleted all 25 digital sex crime videos that were urgently requested for removal on the 1st and conveyed their apologies along with a willingness to build a trust relationship."
On the same day, Telegram sent an official email letter from an East Asia regional representative to the KCSC, stating, "We have learned from media reports that Korean authorities are experiencing difficulties dealing with illegal content on our platform."
Telegram expressed, "We deeply regret the current situation" and added, "We apologize if there was any misunderstanding between both parties."
Furthermore, Telegram informed the KCSC of a new dedicated email address for communication. The KCSC explained that with this new email address, they will be able to immediately verify whether the reported content has been deleted by Telegram.
A KCSC official said, "Telegram’s stance, which has been urged by various countries around the world to engage in more active communication, is very progressive," and added, "It is evaluated that recognizing the seriousness of the recent incidents in our country and clearly expressing a willingness to cooperate in the future will open a significant breakthrough in resolving the current situation."
They continued, "Starting with the dedicated email established through this opportunity for mutual communication, we hope to build a hotline to solve the problem of deepfake sexual exploitation materials and to establish a solid cooperative relationship for the ultimate elimination of digital sex crime videos."
