Expectations for Improved Transportation and Living Conditions
Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province opened the Wongokgyo Bridge in August, connecting Jeongok-ri in Geumgangsong-myeon, Uljin County, and Buncheon-ri in Socheon-myeon, Bonghwa County, across the Nakdong River.
Wongokgyo Bridge was designated as a natural disaster risk improvement zone in 2022, and a total project cost of 4.8 billion KRW (2.4 billion from the national government, 700 million from the province, and 1.7 billion from the county) was invested in its reconstruction, which was completed in July this year. The bridge is 89 meters long and 7 meters wide, aiming to provide convenience for users of Yangwon Station on the Yeongdong Line railway. It is also expected to secure sufficient water flow during typhoons and heavy rains, thereby mitigating natural disaster risks.
Furthermore, with the opening of Wongokgyo Bridge, not only is the number of tourists visiting Jeongok Village expected to increase, but more visitors are also anticipated to trek the Nakdonggang Scenic Trail connecting Yangwon Station, the filming location of the movie 'Miracle,' and Seungbu Station. This is expected to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and improving vehicle traffic.
County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "The opening of Wongokgyo Bridge, which connects the two counties, is expected to greatly help create a safe residential environment for residents of Uljin County and Bonghwa County and revitalize the local economy by attracting tourists."
