Science and Technology Minister Yusang-im's First Work Report... "Advancing Five Major Tasks Including Securing Leadership in Strategic Technologies"

First Ministry of Science and ICT Work Report Since Inauguration on August 16
"Promoting R&D Innovation and Support for STEM Talent"

Yoo Sang-im, Minister of Science and ICT (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Science and ICT), announced at his first briefing to the National Assembly that he will focus on promoting five major policy tasks related to science, technology, and digital platforms.

At the briefing of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Broadcasting and Communications Committee on the 26th, Minister Yoo said in his opening remarks, "As the ministry responsible for science, technology, and digital platforms, we are focusing on five major policy tasks," adding, "With pride as a key ministry preparing and taking responsibility for the nation's future, we will do our best for a new leap forward for the Republic of Korea." This was Minister Yoo’s first Ministry of Science and ICT briefing since his inauguration on the 16th.


The five major policy tasks mentioned by Minister Yoo are ▲ securing leadership in strategic technologies including three major game changers ▲ innovation of the research and development (R&D) system ▲ support for science and engineering talents ▲ leading the AI and digital transformation ▲ resolving public livelihood issues such as communication costs and digital safety.


Minister Yoo stated, "To address the various challenges we face and establish policies that the public can feel, I promise that all employees of the Ministry of Science and ICT, including myself, will do their best."


He also said, "Because science, technology, and digital are not only the nation's competitiveness but also a crucial point determining the future of the Republic of Korea, the roles of the Science, Technology, Broadcasting and Communications Committee and the Ministry of Science and ICT are more important than ever," and added, "I ask for the active cooperation and support of the committee members so that we can join forces for the goal of advancing science, technology, and digital development."
