1000 Korean and American Scientists Discuss AI Topics
The Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies (President Lee Tae-sik) announced on the 22nd that the '2024 Korea-US Science and Technology Conference (UKC-2024),' jointly hosted by the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (President Oh Tae-hwan) and the Korea-US Science Cooperation Center (Chairman Lee Kwang-bok), opened on the 21st at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport in San Francisco, USA.

Marking its 37th year, the Korea-US Science and Technology Conference serves as a platform for academic exchange between scientists and engineers of both countries, laying the foundation for scientific and technological cooperation and contributing to strengthening scientific competitiveness and internationalization.
This year's conference is held under the theme "The Next Era of Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship with Artificial Intelligence," with over 1,000 Korean and American scientists and engineers participating.
Thomas S?dhof, a 2013 Nobel Prize laureate in Medicine and professor at Stanford University, will deliver the keynote speech on "Cholesterol Metabolism and Alzheimer's Disease." Park Ah-hyung, the first Korean woman to serve as dean of an American engineering school and currently dean of UCLA's School of Engineering, will present on "Carbon Economy and Clean Energy." Jang Se-ju, founder of Noom, the leading healthcare startup in the US, will speak on "The Growth Stages and Experiences of Becoming a US Unicorn Company."
The conference will also include discussions on expanding and activating the global network of next-generation scientists and engineers, as well as exploring ways to connect Korean-American scientists and engineers for global scientific and technological cooperation.
In his welcoming remarks, President Lee Tae-sik of the Federation emphasized, "UKC plays a role in strengthening the global partnership for joint growth by advancing cutting-edge science and technology as a Korea-US science and technology alliance," adding, "In the era of overseas business, international joint cooperation involving various stakeholders such as industry, academia, and research in the field of science and technology is crucial."
