Information and communication equipment specialist Mercury announced on the 21st that it has signed a business agreement with the Korea Senior Citizens Association Informatization Project Group for the Internet of Things (IoT) safety management sector of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Smart Senior Centers project.
Through this agreement, Mercury will provide optimized services such as smart IoT safety management solution automatic fire extinguishing devices, smart IoT convenience energy management solutions, and IoT-based remote monitoring.
Mercury's smart IoT safety management solution automatic fire extinguishing device automatically detects emergencies such as fire outbreaks and gas leaks, simultaneously performing alert activities such as sounding on-site alarms and sending emergency text messages (SMS) to managers, as well as emergency response activities like automatic fire extinguishing and gas valve locking.
Last August, a fire at a senior center in Dangjin-si, Chungnam, and in May this year, a fire at a senior center in Gijang-gun, Busan, resulted in casualties. To prevent such accidents, various measures are being promoted, including the introduction of automatic fire extinguishing devices in the Korea Senior Citizens Association recommended model for smart senior centers.
The Korea Senior Citizens Association Informatization Project Group is responsible for building and operating systems for digital informatization projects such as the smart senior center project, which digitizes the facilities and equipment of senior centers nationwide. The smart senior center project has been promoted by the government and local governments since 2021, with the Korea Senior Citizens Association preparing standards and aiming to sequentially distribute informatization devices and services to approximately 68,000 senior centers nationwide.
The Korea Senior Citizens Association Informatization Project Group explained, “It is significant in that it greatly strengthens fire safety for the elderly through collaboration with Mercury, and we expect that this will enable the elderly to use safer and smarter senior centers.”
A Mercury official stated, “We will provide various services through IoT technology so that the 3 million members of the Korea Senior Citizens Association can use senior centers safely and conveniently,” and added, “Through this agreement, we will strengthen safety management at senior centers nationwide and contribute to creating a safe environment for the elderly to live in.”
