Professor Na Heeryang of Pukyong National University Publishes 'International Trade'

Covers Trade and Commerce Theories and Issues... A Guidebook for International Trade and Commerce

Professor Na Heeryang of the Department of International Trade at Pukyong National University has published a professional guidebook on trade and international commerce titled "International Commerce" (Doonam, 428 pages) on the 10th of this month.


In this book, which is composed of four parts and thirteen chapters, Professor Na Heeryang comprehensively examines not only the basic concepts of trade but also major policies and issues related to trade and commerce.


Part I, under the theme of "Trade," introduces fundamental topics such as the purpose of trade, the debate between free trade and protectionism, and multilateral trade agreements. Part II, titled "Basics of the WTO," explores the objectives and functions of the World Trade Organization (WTO), its basic principles, exceptions to these principles, and its decision-making mechanisms, thereby enhancing understanding of the WTO.


Part III, "Advanced WTO," delves into the relationship between Korea and the WTO, various WTO agreements and negotiations, Korea's responses, and cases of trade disputes involving Korea. The final Part IV, "Trade Issues and Policies," discusses major trade issues and current affairs, the trade policies of major countries, the decision-making processes of Korea and other leading countries, and related government agencies.


Professor Na stated, "I hope that through this book, readers will gain a better understanding of trade, the WTO, and major trade issues, and that it will provide an opportunity to reflect on the significance of trade and commerce in our lives and the future direction Korea’s trade and commerce should pursue."


Professor Na Heeryang previously served as a researcher at the Bank of Korea, research fellow at the POSCO Research Institute’s Regional Research Center, assistant professor at the Department of International Trade at Busan University of Foreign Studies, visiting researcher at the Asia Center of Seoul National University, and visiting professor at the World Trade Institute, University of Bern, Switzerland. Her main research areas include international economics, international commerce, and the Southeast Asian economy. Her major publications include "A Simple Guide to Trade and the WTO," "Plans for Korea-Southeast Asia Economic Cooperation in Response to Southeast Asian Urbanization" (co-author), and "Introduction to New Trade Studies in the Global Era" (co-author).
