HD Hyundai Samho, a shipbuilding subsidiary of HD Hyundai, has expanded its ship berthing facilities in response to the increasing orders for high value-added eco-friendly vessels.

On the 10th, HD Hyundai Samho held the '2nd Dolphin Quay Completion Ceremony' attended by about 100 people including Myung Chang-hwan, Vice Governor of Jeollanam-do, Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo, Woo Seung-hee, Governor of Yeongam County, as well as company and construction officials such as Kwon Oh-gap, Chairman of HD Hyundai, and Shin Hyun-dae, President of HD Hyundai Samho.

The Dolphin quay is a protruding facility constructed by installing sturdy pillar-shaped structures in the sea adjacent to the land and connecting them. Compared to a general quay, it allows ships to berth on both sides, maximizing the efficiency of the quay.

Eco-friendly vessels, including LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers whose orders have recently increased, require up to twice as long quay work time compared to general ships. To address this, HD Hyundai Samho began construction of the '2nd Dolphin Quay' in July last year.

The newly completed dolphin quay has a total length of 530 meters including the connecting road and is equipped with two large cranes supporting shipbuilding operations. It can berth a total of four ultra-large vessels, two on each side of the quay.

As a result, the total length of HD Hyundai Samho's quay has increased to 3.6 km, and the number of ships that can berth simultaneously has expanded from 14 to 18.

Through this investment, HD Hyundai Samho has resolved process bottlenecks and strengthened its shipbuilding capabilities for eco-friendly vessels, while also reducing the cost burden of leasing nearby ports due to quay shortages. By securing a wider and safer workspace, the working environment for workers has also greatly improved.

At the completion ceremony, Chairman Kwon Oh-gap said, "With the completion of the 2nd Dolphin Quay, HD Hyundai Samho has secured additional momentum to lead the eco-friendly ship market," adding, "We must maximize the construction of high value-added eco-friendly vessels and continue to grow as a key company in the southwestern region."
