Mosaic Tile Artwork 'Jumong-ui Huye' Presented
Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do recently unveiled a unique artwork to create a culturally friendly environment at the traditional Korean archery range, ‘Changdeokjeong.’
According to the county on the 4th, the large-scale artwork using mosaic tiles on the railing wall is titled ‘Descendants of Jumong.’
‘Descendants of Jumong’ symbolizes the outstanding archery skills of Jumong, the founder of Goguryeo, and the tradition of archery that has been passed down to the present day.
Jindo is historically significant as the place where the Sambyeolcho fought and died resisting the Mongol-Korean allied forces during the Goryeo Dynasty. The total ranks of the members of the Changdeokjeong Korean Archery Association exceed 100 dan, highlighting the historical value of Korean archery battles here.
Within this historical context, the ‘Descendants of Jumong’ artwork is receiving particular attention.
Changdeokjeong is situated on high ground and is connected to various tourist attractions such as Dongoe Lake Park, the Hinoki Cypress Forest hiking trail, and the Yeolliji Zelkova Tree Park, making it a popular spot for photography.
A county official stated, “We plan to create a healing space that combines art and sports through public sports facilities to support and expand local culture and arts.”
Through ‘Descendants of Jumong’ at Changdeokjeong, Jindo-gun is revitalizing the region’s history and culture, offering new inspiration and experiences to tourists and citizens alike.
