At this council, explanations on the main contents and policies of the ‘Act on the Prevention of Coastal Accidents,’ recent coastal accident status and analysis, and inter-agency work consultations to strengthen cooperation for coastal accident prevention, including current issues requiring collaboration, were conducted.

Analysis of coastal accidents over the past three years (2021?2023) showed that 125 coastal accidents and 19 deaths occurred within the jurisdiction of Jeju Maritime Police, with 90% of the deceased not wearing life jackets, indicating that most accidents were due to negligence.

Each agency discussed preventive measures such as publicity campaigns to prevent safety accidents, and due to frequent water play accidents at ports and harbors last year, discussions were also held among related agencies on setting risk zones according to Article 41 of the ‘Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety’ as a preventive measure.

A Jeju Maritime Police official said, “Through this Regional Coastal Accident Prevention Council, we shared a lot of information among related agencies, and based on this, we will do our best to prevent coastal accidents for the safe coastal activities of the public.”
