Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that its project for digitalizing public restroom management using IoT (Internet of Things) and QR technology has been selected for the 2024 digital-based regional revitalization project called ‘Gonggam e Gadeuk,’ securing 100 million KRW in national funding.

The Gonggam e Gadeuk project is a program that uses digital technology to enable direct participation of local residents and cooperation between private companies and local governments to solve regional problems.

To efficiently manage public restrooms frequently used by many tourists, Gurye-gun plans to implement a service utilizing IoT and QR technology where managers can monitor cleaning status and supply inventory at a glance, and users can report inconveniences by attaching precise locations and on-site photos via SNS without complicated procedures.

Furthermore, the project will be expanded beyond public restrooms to various public facilities that are difficult to manage on-site, allowing anyone to easily and quickly report inconveniences when using public facilities.

County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “Starting with the Sansuyu Flower Festival in March, followed by the 300-ri Cherry Blossom Festival, Piagol Autumn Foliage Festival, and summer water activities, Gurye attracts many tourists throughout all four seasons. However, even if there were inconveniences in public restrooms, the reporting process was complicated and difficult,” adding, “Through this contest project, we will do our best to ensure that the management and operation of public restrooms match the image of Gurye as a tourism special zone.”
