STX has been selected as the preferred negotiation partner in the Peruvian Army’s wheeled armored vehicle supply project with the Army Ordnance Factory (FAME S.A.C.). Following the supply of patrol vessels 1 to 8, STX plans to strengthen its presence in the Peruvian defense market by successfully entering the land defense sector.
On the 2nd, STX announced that it received the highest score among competitors in this bid, based on a comprehensive evaluation of military vehicle supply experience and international quality certification levels. An STX official explained that this contract is significant as it outperformed national companies with world-class technology and supply records in the wheeled armored vehicle sector.
STX has been engaged in the patrol vessel business in Peru for over 10 years. From 2013 to 2021, it built and supplied patrol vessels 1 to 6, each weighing 500 tons, to the Peruvian government, totaling $90 million (approximately 124 billion KRW), and has been producing the 7th and 8th follow-up vessels since last year.
Additionally, STX has delivered CPVs (Coastal Patrol Vessels) to Colombia, supplied Korean-style small tactical vehicles to the Nigerian Army, and exported ambulances to Iraq, advancing various defense projects across Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
Through this contract, STX will supply Hyundai Rotem’s wheeled armored vehicle K808 to the Peruvian Army. This wheeled armored vehicle features excellent ballistic and blast protection performance and is equipped with 8-wheeled run-flat tires. The introduction of these vehicles is expected to enhance Peru’s land security.
An STX official stated, "We will closely cooperate with the Ministry of National Defense and Hyundai Rotem to ensure the project proceeds smoothly, contributing to the security enhancement of Peru, a strategic partner of Korea," adding, "We will contribute to raising the reputation of K-defense."
