Ulsan City to Select 'Beautiful Buildings'

Call for Entries for 'This Year's Ulsan City Architecture Awards' Until August 2

Ulsan City is holding the "2024 Ulsan City Architecture Awards" to select beautiful buildings that enhance the city's urban dignity.

Now in its 14th year, the Architecture Awards began in 1996 to discover outstanding local buildings and promote architectural culture.

This contest will be held over three months, from May 3 to August 2.

The eligible buildings are those located in Ulsan City with approved usage permits, and the competition categories are divided into three sectors: residential, public, and general.

Comprehensive evaluations will be made based on creativity, public value, functionality, and constructability to select one grand prize winner, three excellence awardees, and two merit awardees.

Applicants must prepare an application form along with explanatory materials of up to 10 pages, including the building’s design summary and site photos, and submit them either by visiting the Ulsan City Architecture Policy Division or by mail.

In August, the city will form a judging committee consisting of architecture committee members, public architects, and citizen judges with expertise to conduct first and second rounds of document screening and a third round of on-site evaluation, with final selections made in September.

Buildings selected as outstanding will have a Ulsan City Architecture Award plaque attached.

In particular, designers will receive special privileges such as preferential selection when appointed to various committees including public architects and the public architecture review committee.

Additionally, at the opening ceremony of the "8th Ulsan Architecture Culture Festival" held in October, plaques will be awarded to building owners and designers, and panels and models will be produced and exhibited for public viewing.

A city official stated, "We ask for the participation and interest of many citizens in the 2024 Ulsan City Architecture Awards contest," adding, "We will strive to select beautiful buildings that represent Ulsan."

To ensure citizen participation and objectivity in judging, Ulsan City is publicly recruiting two citizen judges with expertise in related fields by July 22.
