Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is scheduled to visit Beijing, China on the 28th (local time) to discuss Tesla's autonomous driving mode features with Chinese authorities.
According to foreign media such as the BBC, citing two anonymous sources on the 28th (local time), Musk wants to activate Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China and transmit data collected in China overseas to train the algorithm.
According to the sources, Musk plans to meet with senior Chinese officials in Beijing to discuss the launch of the FSD software within China.
Currently, the driving assistance system FSD is available in the United States and other countries, but it is not available in China. FSD is designed to enable full autonomous driving without human intervention and is distinguished from the Autopilot assistance system.
Tesla has taken measures to reassure Chinese authorities regarding the FSD launch, including establishing a data center in Shanghai to process data of Chinese consumers in accordance with local Chinese laws.
In August last year, Chinese media 36kr reported that Tesla was forming a local operations team of about 20 people in China and promoting the service of the autonomous driving solution FSD in the Chinese market. In November of the same year, Chinese media Zhongguo Jinzhenbao reported that Tesla was pushing for the launch of FSD features in China in accordance with local government requirements.
This month, Musk responded to a question posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Tesla might "soon" enable Chinese customers to use FSD as well.
Meanwhile, Tesla has sold more than 1.7 million vehicles in China so far, and the Shanghai factory is the company's largest production base.
