Gwangjin-gu Provides Funeral and Burial Expenses to Lower-Income Groups... First in Seoul

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will be the first in Seoul to provide support for childbirth and funeral expenses to the near-poverty class, following the basic livelihood security recipients, to alleviate the economic burden on low-income residents.

The childbirth and funeral expenses for basic livelihood security recipients are welfare benefits that cover costs incurred when recipients of livelihood, medical, or housing benefits give birth or pass away.

Gwangjin-gu has been providing childbirth and funeral expenses to basic livelihood security recipients, but as the number of low-income households facing economic difficulties due to cost burdens has increased, this year the support scope will be expanded to include the near-poverty class.

The support targets residents of Gwangjin-gu who are ▲near-poverty disabled persons ▲near-poverty self-support persons ▲single-parent families, etc. If selected, 700,000 KRW will be paid to the childbirth person (or head of household, or equivalent), and 800,000 KRW to the person who actually conducted the funeral.

Applicants wishing to receive support should prepare the application form, birth certificate, death certificate, and other necessary documents and visit the local community service center of their residence. For details such as the near-poverty class criteria, inquiries can be made to the Social Welfare and Disabled Affairs Division of Gwangjin-gu Office.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We have expanded the support scope for low-income households struggling with childbirth and funeral expenses,” and added, “Going forward, Gwangjin-gu will do its best to create a happy city for all residents without leaving any marginalized groups behind.”
