Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan District, Gwangju Metropolitan City, who visited Uzbekistan with an economic delegation consisting of local companies and universities, visited the site of a Gwangju company operating in Uzbekistan on the 22nd local time to share information about the operational status and entry process.
The company visited by the Gwangsan District economic delegation (led by Mayor Park Byung-gyu) on that day was ‘GOC-UZ (Geo-C-Uzbekistan)’ located in Jizzakh Province, Uzbekistan. It is a specialized manufacturer of optical cables, optical components, and optical sensors, established in 2019 as a joint venture between Gwangju company Musong Geo-C Co., Ltd. and Uzbekistan Telecom.
‘GOC-UZ’ is pioneering the domestic market in Uzbekistan while exporting optical cables produced with excellent technology to neighboring Central Asian countries and Indonesia, solidifying its strong position. It operates two factories, Factory 1 and Factory 2, and employs about 150 people. This year, it aims for sales of 20 million USD and is focusing on expanding export channels.
Businesspeople from the Gwangsan District economic delegation, including Mayor Park Byung-gyu, toured the factory facilities with Park In-cheol, CEO of Musong Geo-C Co., Ltd., and received explanations about the company’s operational status and local market entry process.
CEO Park In-cheol said, “Uzbekistan is actively attracting high-tech industries, opening up many possibilities and opportunities. If companies from Gwangsan District are competitive, they will definitely succeed not only in Uzbekistan but also in the Central Asian market.”
Mayor Park Byung-gyu of Gwangsan District stated, “The case of Musong Geo-C Co., Ltd., which quickly recognized Uzbekistan’s growth potential and pioneered a path, will serve as a very good guide for Gwangsan District companies seeking various opportunities through this economic exchange.”
Earlier, on the 21st, the Gwangsan District economic delegation visited the economic special zone in Syrdarya Province, Uzbekistan, where they had their first economic exchange, inspecting companies producing furniture materials, textiles, and packaging materials.
The Syrdarya Province Economic Special Zone was established in 2013 by presidential decree, covering an area of 40 km². It offers foreign investors 30 years of free land lease and various tax benefits.
To welcome the economic delegation inspecting the special zone companies, Hodzimanov Jamurlitdin, Mayor of Gulistan City in Syrdarya Province, who signed a friendship exchange agreement with Gwangsan District on the 20th, personally appeared at the site to introduce and explain the companies.
Mayor Park Byung-gyu of Gwangsan District said, “We will organize and review what we have seen and heard at various Uzbek companies with the participating companies and universities in the economic delegation, seek and promote various exchange plans that can bring new vitality to the Gwangsan District economy.”
