5:1 Competition Rate Observed... Grand Prize Awarded to Women-Owned Business 'Hamseong'
Selected Companies Receive Support Including Commercialization Funds (Up to 30 Million KRW), Startup Space, and Consulting
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) is discovering and nurturing promising youth startup companies that will solve social issues and local agendas with creative ideas and innovative business models.
The district announced on the 22nd that it selected 15 youth startup companies (teams) through document screening, startup camps, and competitions in general fields such as ▲carbon neutrality ▲health care ▲4th industrial revolution ▲local commercial districts, as well as in areas utilizing IT·CT technology to solve local problems and revitalize the economy.
Earlier, the district held a public contest last month targeting ‘early-stage startups or prospective startups within 3 years’ composed of three or more youths under 39 years old with entrepreneurial will in Seodaemun-gu, showing a competition rate of 5:1.
Recently, at the Seodaemun Youth Startup Center, an ‘Outstanding Youth Venture Awards Ceremony’ and a ‘Youth Q&A Startup Meeting with Young Entrepreneurs’ were held with Mayor Lee Seongheon in attendance.
Among the 15 finally selected startup companies (teams), the prestigious grand prize was awarded to the women-led company ‘Hamseong’ (CEO Park Seongmi), which operates a ‘slow learner education and expert matching platform.’
Additionally, the top prize in the local commercial district category went to WithMe (CEO Yeom Seungmin), a ‘mobile gift certificate issuance and distribution platform for small business owners,’ while the excellence awards were given to prospective entrepreneurs Lim Junyeol in health care, Kim Juhyung in the 4th industrial revolution field, and Choi Youngjae.
Including these awardees, the 15 youth startup companies will receive up to 30 million KRW in commercialization funds, startup spaces, and consulting (corporate establishment, organizational transformation, promotion, investment attraction) support until the end of this year.
They will also be given opportunities such as ‘linking youth hub spaces within the region’ and ‘joint planning of policy projects.’
At the meeting, Mayor Lee Seongheon revealed plans for the undergrounding and three-dimensional complex development of the Gyeongui Line, including an industry-academia joint complex researching semiconductors and bio industries, youth startup facilities, cultural and artistic spaces, and park creation, attracting the interest of young entrepreneurs.
The district promoted this contest to stabilize and support the growth of youth startup companies possessing promising startup items and core competencies.
Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, “We will actively support early and prospective startups to grow into representative youth startup companies of the region to realize a youth startup city where dreams become the future.”
