The Fair Trade Commission announced on the 19th that it will newly appoint lawyer Kim Mun-seong as a non-standing commissioner.
This appointment follows the expiration of the term of former non-standing commissioner Seo Jeong. Commissioner Kim's term will be from the 22nd of this month until April 21, 2027.
After passing the 40th Judicial Examination, Commissioner Kim served as a judge at the Seoul Central District Court, a research judge at the Supreme Court, and a chief judge at the Uijeongbu District Court, working as a judge for 17 years. He is currently working as a lawyer at the law firm Leeje.
Commissioner Kim has handled various civil and criminal cases related to violations of the Fair Trade Act and the Subcontracting Act, including bid rigging. In particular, he was the first to lead punitive damages liability for violations of the Subcontracting Act and the Win-Win Cooperation Act.
The Fair Trade Commission expressed expectations that "Commissioner Kim, who has built expertise through long service as a judge, Supreme Court research judge, and lawyer, will greatly contribute to the decisions of the quasi-judicial body, the Fair Trade Commission."
