Since the service was being live-streamed on the internet, footage of the bishop being attacked quickly spread on X (formerly Twitter). People trying to stop the attacker were also injured by the weapon and are currently receiving treatment. A man in his 50s sustained self-inflicted wounds and was transported to nearby Liverpool Hospital, while a man in his 30s received laceration treatment and was also taken to the hospital. Additionally, a man in his 20s suffered a cut on his hand, and a man in his 60s was treated on-site for an arm laceration. Fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening. NSW police, who responded to the report, arrested the suspect at the scene and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.

Earlier, on the 13th, a man in his 40s wielded a weapon at a shopping mall in Sydney, killing six people and seriously injuring twelve others. Police who arrived at the scene shot and killed the suspect. Given that Australia strictly controls firearms and weapons, this incident is considered unusual. Amid these consecutive stabbing rampages in Australia, local police are concerned about the possibility of copycat crimes.
