Ministry of Employment Provides Safety Mentoring to 3,000 Specialized Construction Companies

The government is promoting safety mentoring for 3,000 specialized construction companies to reduce major accidents.

On the 4th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that during the '2024 1st Industrial Safety and Health Supervision Council' held on the same day, they reviewed the progress of the 'Industrial Safety Diagnosis' and 'Safety Mentoring for Specialized Construction Companies' aimed at strengthening workplace safety management capabilities, and discussed future plans.

This year, the Ministry of Employment and Labor will conduct industrial safety and health supervision and inspections at a total of 24,000 workplaces. To strengthen the self-regulatory prevention system where companies identify and improve risk factors on their own, they will expand specialized inspections for risk assessments and establish region-specific planned supervision and inspections tailored to local characteristics.

As of the 31st of last month, the Industrial Safety Diagnosis has seen 250,000 self-diagnosis participations and 120,000 workplaces applying for government support.

Since more than half of fatal accidents occur in the construction industry, and about 75% of construction industry fatalities happen at specialized construction companies, safety mentoring will be conducted for approximately 3,000 specialized construction companies.

Industrial safety supervisors and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency officers will act as safety mentors, regularly monitoring the processes and work details of the assigned construction companies, and providing dedicated mentoring by sharing appropriate safety and health materials considering the type of construction and work details.

Ryu Kyung-hee, Director of the Industrial Safety and Health Headquarters at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, urged, "Please strengthen communication with the field this year so that policies such as the Industrial Safety Diagnosis and safety mentoring for specialized construction companies can be effective."
