Gyeongnam Office of Education to Fully Cover School Uniform Costs for New Middle and High School Students in the Province Starting This Year

483 Schools, Over 64,000 Students Receive 300,000 Won Each

The Gyeongnam Office of Education will provide 300,000 KRW to new middle and high school students in the province this year to support the purchase of school uniforms.

Support for school uniform purchase costs had been managed by Gyeongnam Province under a win-win agreement for local autonomy and educational development, but following the results of the Gyeongnam Educational Administration Council in October last year, the provincial Office of Education decided to fully cover the costs starting in 2024.

Accordingly, the provincial Office of Education has enacted the Gyeongnam Office of Education School Uniform Support Ordinance to ensure continuity of educational welfare projects and reduce confusion among parents, providing a total of 19.2 billion KRW to approximately 64,000 new students at 483 schools in the province for school uniform purchase costs.

For new students at schools that do not require uniforms, costs up to 300,000 KRW will be provided to purchase everyday clothing.

The support funds will be deposited into the account of the parent or guardian after they submit an application form for school uniform or everyday clothing purchase costs to the school.

Superintendent Park Jong-hoon said, “I hope that support for school uniform purchase costs will help reduce the financial burden on parents,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to restore the public nature of education and expand universal educational welfare.”
