Gyeonggi-do Expands AI-Based 'Solitary Death Prevention Service'

Gyeonggi Province will expand the 'AI-based Loneliness Death Prevention and Response Service for Single-Person Households' to cover the entire province in the second half of this year.

This service uses AI to detect abnormal signs through weekly phone calls with the target individuals and predicts the risk of loneliness death by utilizing MyData such as electricity, telecommunications, and water usage.

If abnormal signs are detected, such as no or decreased usage of electricity, telecommunications, water, or mobile phone data over a certain period, welfare counselors from the city or county visit the service users in person to check on their well-being.

To this end, Gyeonggi Province has been operating a pilot service since May last year in Ansan City, analyzing data purchased from Korea Electric Power Corporation, SKT, KT, and other telecommunications-related data daily at 4 a.m., predicting risk levels, and providing alerts according to the situation.

This year, smartphone activity information of care recipients has been added to the crisis prediction data.

Currently, only users with automatic measuring devices for electricity and water or those using SKT and KT can subscribe, but going forward, the plan is to enhance crisis prediction by utilizing whether the smartphone is powered off, call and data usage, and activity levels.

In cooperation with the Korea Medical Welfare Social Cooperative, Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center, Seoul National University Hospital, and others, medical information such as chronic diseases and depression will also be added to strengthen the loneliness death prevention function.

This project will expand the service to 31 cities and counties in the province in the second half of the year after conducting additional service demonstrations for 3 to 4 cities and counties selected through a public contest in May.

Additionally, Gyeonggi Province is preparing a demonstration project for the 'AI Care Service for People with Severe Developmental Disabilities,' which analyzes and supports behavior correction for the most severe developmental disabilities this year. This project uses AI video analysis technology to identify nine challenging behaviors, automatically save and record them, enabling behavior correction experts to provide accurate consulting.

Kim Hyun-dae, Director of the Future Growth Industry Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We expect AI technology to be an important stepping stone that accelerates the transition to a society where social value is created beyond mere technological advancement, and everyone can enjoy a convenient and safe life."
