Gurye-gun Announces and Exhibits Winners of the Korea Pressed Flower Art Competition

Writer Kim Myeongsuk's 'Journey Embracing the Years' Wins Presidential Award

Award Ceremony Held on April 3 at Gurye-gun Culture and Arts Center

The 23rd Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition, hosted by Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do and organized by the Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition Committee, awarded the Grand Prize to artist Kim Myung-sook's work "A Journey Embracing Time."

Regarding the Grand Prize-winning piece, the judges commented, "The expression of the earthen wall using leaves and the creation of a thatched house by weaving straw demonstrate outstanding expressiveness." They also praised the work for its "particularly excellent use of wildflowers."

This year's Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition was divided into domestic (pressed flowers, preserved flowers) and international sections, with participation from 12 countries submitting a total of 322 works.

Among these, in the domestic pressed flower category, a total of 32 awards were given: 1 Grand Prize, 3 Excellence Awards, 3 Outstanding Awards, 10 Merit Awards, and 15 Encouragement Awards.

In the preserved flower category, 10 awards were selected, including Grand Prize, Excellence, Outstanding, and Encouragement Awards. The Grand Prize was awarded to artist Kim Jun-won for "Kkokaot."

The results of the international exhibition were announced last February, with 33 works selected as outstanding, including the Grand Prize winner Zou Shuangfeng (추쌍봉) and two others for "Naughty Fei Yun."

The judges noted, "This year's works stood out for their diversity in materials and composition, expressing commonly encountered wildflower materials such as foxtail grass and spiraea as if they were paintings." They added, "We applaud the artists' efforts and passion in cultivating flowers and completing their pressed flower artworks."

The awards ceremony for this contest will be held on April 3, and the winning works will be exhibited year-round at the Korea Pressed Flower Museum in Gurye-gun starting March 9.
