The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 31st that it has selected 1,608 education and training courses for obtaining process-assessment type national technical qualifications in 2024.
Starting this year, 10 new categories, including Equipment Maintenance Engineer and Spatial Information Convergence Industrial Engineer, have been added to the process-assessment type national technical qualifications.
Unlike the exam-based qualifications centered on written tests, the process-assessment type national technical qualifications are awarded to those who complete education and training courses designed around practical fieldwork regardless of academic background or experience, and pass a practical skills-focused evaluation.
The number of process-assessment type qualification holders has steadily increased from 3,000 in 2018 to 10,000 last year. The Ministry of Employment and Labor explained that since these qualifications are designed around practical skills needed in the industry, they enable quick adaptation to actual fieldwork, and are positively evaluated for having higher employment rates and shorter job search periods compared to exam-based qualifications.
The 1,608 courses across 186 selected categories can be checked on the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s website and the process-assessment qualification website.
Kwon Tae-seong, Director of the Vocational Competency Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, stated, "We will continue to expand the process-assessment type qualifications, which receive positive evaluations in the industry, by establishing categories needed in the field and strengthening training for teachers and instructors, so that many excellent qualification holders can be cultivated."
