Governor Kim Dong-yeon Orders Safety Management Response for 'Cold Wave and Road Freezing' in 31 Cities and Counties Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon gave special instructions on the 22nd to respond to road icing and safety management for vulnerable groups due to the sudden drop in temperature.


On the same day, Gyeonggi Province announced that it urgently transmitted a governor's directive document containing these details on cold wave and road icing preparedness to 31 cities and counties within the province.


In the document, Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated, "After rain or snow fell in Gyeonggi Province from the 21st to the 22nd, there are concerns about damage to vulnerable groups caused by road icing and the cold wave due to the rapid temperature drop," and urged, "Please activate emergency response systems by city and county and thoroughly manage safety."


He continued, "Since the cold will persist for the time being, please strengthen protective measures for vulnerable groups such as elderly people living alone and homeless individuals affected by the cold wave, and conduct thorough safety management including pre-application of de-icing agents and increased patrols in icing-prone areas such as in front of tunnels, near bridges, and on side roads where road icing is expected."


Additionally, he instructed to provide prior guidance on preventing freezing of water meters and water pipes and to carry out rapid restoration work in case of damage. Following Governor Kim's instructions, the Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and about 300 personnel from 31 cities and counties will prepare for preventive measures and emergency situations.


Earlier, at 1 p.m. on the 21st, Gyeonggi Province activated the Cold Wave Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and has been inspecting daily prevention activities such as situation management, protection of vulnerable groups, and facility protection together with cities and counties.


Currently, cold wave warnings have been issued across the province, including cold wave alerts in 8 cities and counties such as Dongducheon, and cold wave advisories in 23 cities and counties including Suwon.
