As the new year of Gapjin begins, the quotes of famous prophets about 2024 are becoming a hot topic. Recently, foreign media such as the New York Post have focused on the prophecies made by Nostradamus and Baba Vanga. First, Nostradamus, a famous 16th-century French astrologer, is known for predicting the rise of Napoleon and Hitler, the 9/11 attacks, and COVID-19. In Korea, he is most famous for the 1999 apocalypse prediction.

Nostradamus wrote a book of prophecies (Les Propheties) in 1555, consisting of 942 poetic quatrains. In this book, he predicted that in 2024 there would be a climate crisis and the birth of a new pope. In particular, Nostradamus foresaw the worsening of the climate crisis. He wrote in the prophecy book, "The parched land will become even drier, and great floods will occur." Nostradamus also mentioned a global famine caused by an epidemic. He said, "A very great famine will come due to an epidemic." He also referred to the possibility of a new pope succeeding Pope Francis. Nostradamus wrote, "After the death of a very old pope, a Roman will be elected (as the new pope)."
The Catholic pope usually does not resign from the papacy during his lifetime, making it effectively a lifelong position. The case of former Pope Benedict XVI, who passed away on December 31 last year and had handed over the papacy to his successor Pope Francis during his lifetime, is very unusual. Pope Francis turned 87 on December 17 last year. Due to influenza and lung inflammation, Pope Francis did not attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) held last December.

Before her death in 1996, she left prophecies up to the year 5079, and many of her predictions, such as the 9/11 attacks, Barack Obama's election as president, former President Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis, the emergence of COVID-19 variants, and flood damage in Australia and Asia, came true, making her famous worldwide.
Regarding events in 2024, Baba Vanga predicted the advancement of AI, the rise of quantum computing, and major changes in the financial, medical, and cyber sectors. She also mentioned the outbreak of a naval war, the possibility of Prince Harry succeeding King Charles III, and the development of treatments for certain cancers and Alzheimer's disease.
