Convenience Stores, Ranked No.1 Part-Time Job Keyword for 2 Consecutive Years
"High Accessibility Plays a Key Role"
The part-time job portal 'AlbaCheonguk' analyzed the ranking of its keywords and found that the most searched part-time job keyword by Koreans for the second consecutive year was 'convenience store.'
On the 20th, AlbaCheonguk stated, "In the overall keyword ranking, 'convenience store' took first place. Following that were cafe and pharmacy, respectively," adding, "The convenience store keyword consistently ranked first in the monthly rankings not only last year but also this year." The second-place keyword, cafe, also consistently held second place in the monthly rankings this year.

Regarding why convenience store and cafe part-time jobs have held the unshakable first and second positions for several years, they analyzed, "The overwhelming popularity of keywords related to mid-priced coffee franchises and convenience store part-time jobs was evident," and "Part-time jobs like cafes and convenience stores, which have many stores nationwide, seem to benefit significantly from their accessibility."
Although convenience store part-time jobs are considered synonymous with part-time work in Korea and sought by many, the hourly wage level is actually known to be the lowest among all part-time jobs.
According to an analysis of about 2.14 million hourly wage data by the part-time job platform 'AlbaMon' in July, the hourly wage for convenience store jobs in the first half of this year was 9,787 won, placing it among the lowest. Compared to fitting model jobs, which have the highest average hourly wage (25,573 won), the difference is nearly 2.5 times.
However, the reason for the low hourly wage of convenience store part-time jobs appears to be that the average working hours are longer than those of other part-time jobs. In the case of fitting models, the hourly wage is more than twice the minimum wage, but the working hours are usually only 2 to 3 hours.
On the other hand, convenience store and production part-time jobs generally involve working throughout the legal working hours, and it is common to work overtime due to heavy workloads.
