Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure at Gwangju Police Agency in 'Case Broker Investigation'

The Anti-Corruption and Violent Crime Investigation Division of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Jin-ho) dispatched investigators on the morning of the 10th to execute search warrants at the Investigation Division 2 and Information Cooperation Division of the Gwangju Police Agency, the Criminal Division of the Northern Police Station, and the Cheomdan Precinct.

The prosecution is reportedly seizing mobile phones and other devices from police officers who appear to have requested personnel favors or provided investigative conveniences to the broker, Mr. A (61, detained and indicted).

Mr. A is currently on trial after being detained and indicted on charges of violating the Attorney-at-Law Act for receiving a total of 1.742 billion KRW and a passenger car on 13 occasions between August 20, 2020, and August 25, 2021, from parties involved in cases under the pretext of quashing investigations or providing conveniences.

Mr. A built relationships with prosecutors, police officers, and local government officials through golf and dining hospitality, subsequently making various requests.

The prosecution is continuing its investigation into Mr. A's influence over personnel and investigations within the prosecution and police, as well as allegations of corruption in local government public construction contracts and illegal political funding.
