Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will host a humanities concert titled "The Epic of Challenge and Innovation, Greek and Roman Mythology" by inviting Professor Kim Heon on September 7th at 7 PM in the lobby on the first floor of the district office.

The Gangnam-gu Humanities Concert, which invites celebrities, writers, and artists from various fields to discuss topics for the popularization of humanities, will focus on the Western classic Greek and Roman mythology in celebration of September as Reading Month.

Professor Kim Heon of Seoul National University Institute for Humanities, the lecturer, is widely known to the public through his books such as "Kim Heon's Greek and Roman Mythology," "A Journey to the Land of Myth and Festival: Greek Civilization," and various broadcasts including "The Naked World History" and "The Private Lives of the Gods: Greek and Roman Mythology." In this lecture, he plans to share wisdom for life and values through stories of challenge and innovation found in mythology.

Before the lecture, violinist Kwon Geurim will perform violin solos by Bach and Paganini. Kwon Geurim, a graduate of Seoul National University with both master's and doctoral degrees, has a record of winning first place in numerous competitions, invited solo recitals, and collaborations, and will convey the atmosphere of Greek and Roman mythology through music.

The humanities concert will continue in October and November. On October 12th, neuroscientist and writer Professor Jang Dong-seon will give a lecture titled "The Future of the AI Era from the Perspective of a Neuroscientist." On November 30th, author Cheon Myeong-gwan, whose novel "Whale" was shortlisted for the 2023 International Booker Prize, will be invited.

The humanities concert is aimed at about 200 local residents. Pre-registration is available on the Gangnam-gu Integrated Library website, and even those who do not register in advance can attend the lecture in the open space on the first floor of the district office main building.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, "We are preparing lectures by celebrities from various fields and high-quality performances so that residents can easily and enjoyably encounter humanities in their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to provide quality humanities lectures and create a cultural city Gangnam."
