Jamboree Participants Experience Traditional Instruments and Gugak in Namwon

Namwon City in Jeonbuk welcomed over 200 participants from Ecuador and Egypt, who needed to relocate due to the sudden cancellation caused by the northward approach of Typhoon ‘Khanun,’ at Ilsung Condo in Sannae-myeon on the 8th. The city actively supported their 3-night, 4-day off-site activities, earning positive responses from the participants.

The city organized various cultural experiences and tourism programs to ensure the Jamboree participants’ journey in Korea would conclude meaningfully. From the third day, due to continuous rain and to prevent safety accidents, outdoor programs were suspended, and indoor programs were held at the Ilsung Condo accommodation.

On the first day, participants stayed at the accommodation due to late arrival. From the second day, they visited outdoor sites such as Gwanghallu Garden, Jirisan Herb Valley, and Baekdudaegan Ecological Education Center, allowing them to experience the charm of Korea through the city of Namwon.

After dinner, Kim Beom-jun, MC and Namwon City’s promotional ambassador, was invited to hold surprise events and recreational activities tailored to the youth’s interests, which received enthusiastic responses from the participants.

Notably, during the surprise nighttime performance, an Ecuadorian participant voluntarily came on stage to play the flute, attracting attention. This was followed by performances from participants who played traditional Ecuadorian instruments and danced to K-POP, further energizing the event.

On the final day, the 10th, after a morning rest, indoor programs continued in the afternoon under the guidance of MC Kim Beom-jun. Under the theme ‘Let’s Play with Sound,’ participants learned samulnori (traditional Korean percussion), traditional instruments (janggu, nanta, beorna), and made mini janggu drums, experiencing Korean traditional music.

Following a performance by the Phil Orchestra featuring flute, violin, and cello, a cheerful sports day was held combining physical education and recreational group games, concluding the afternoon schedule with a talent show by the participants.

Meanwhile, the evening program in Namwon was capped off with a K-POP performance by Namwon Gugak Arts High School.

Especially, the Gugak Arts High School dance team performed street creative works, followed by a session learning the Boombastic and BTS-Dynamite dances together, creating a meaningful final night where Namwon’s youth and youths from around the world united.

A participant who spent 3 nights and 4 days in Namwon said, “The people of Namwon seemed very kind and cooperative,” adding, “The unique scenery of Gwanghallu Garden was very impressive, and making lucky pouches and taking 4-cut photos at Play Namwon remain memorable.”

Mayor Choi Kyung-sik visited Ilsung Condo on the last afternoon to check on the participants and urged the staff, “Please do your best until the very end to ensure the off-site activities in Namwon conclude safely.”

He also addressed the Jamboree participants, saying, “I hope you fully enjoyed the charm of Korea through the traditional cultural experiences you had in Namwon,” and “Please remember the traditional cultural city of Korea, ‘Namwon,’ which you saw and felt over the past three days.”
