"Lee Jae-myung Should Personally Visit the Korean Senior Citizens Association to Apologize"
Kim Eun-kyung, the Innovation Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, who has been embroiled in controversy over her 'elderly disparagement' remarks, further sparked another controversy by calling her work under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration "humiliating." In response, Jang Ye-chan, the Youth Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, sharply criticized her, saying, "Donate the humiliating 300 million won annual salary to the Korea Senior Citizens Association as a gesture of apology."
On the 3rd, Jang, the Youth Supreme Council Member, said on SBS's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' "This (Vice Chairman of the Financial Supervisory Service) is a sweet job with an annual salary of 300 million won. It is a very famous 'God's job' in the financial sector. However, even after the regime changed, this person stubbornly completed the term to receive that 300 million won for one more year," adding, "If it was truly humiliating even now, I would consider whether this person has sincerity if they donate that humiliating 300 million won salary to the Korea Senior Citizens Association as a gesture of apology."
Appointed as Vice Chairman of the Financial Supervisory Service during the Moon Jae-in administration and completing her term under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, Chair Kim sparked controversy on the 1st during a meeting with citizens in Incheon by saying, "It was extremely humiliating to finish my term under Yoon Suk-yeol," referring to President Yoon without his title. This added fuel to the fire amid ongoing controversy over her 'elderly disparagement' remarks.
Jang, the Youth Supreme Council Member, criticized, "With 300 million won, her salary is even higher than the president's," and said, "During the last administration, many victims suffered from financial fund frauds such as the Lime and Optimus scandals, but there is not a single article stating that (Chair Kim) made efforts through the Financial Consumer Protection Division to help and support the victims of Lime or Optimus."
He continued, "This person simply enjoyed being treated well, riding in a company car with a 300 million won salary. She lived a very FLEX (luxurious) and YOLO (you only live once) life," adding, "So why is she now whining about being humiliated?"
As the controversy over the elderly disparagement remarks grew, the Democratic Party visited the Korea Senior Citizens Association to apologize for the related remarks, but Chair Kim herself did not participate. Jang, the Youth Supreme Council Member, said, "Since she is a university professor and a vice chairman with a 300 million won salary who has been treated well all her life and has never bowed her head to others, even after causing such a major scandal, she does not think she needs to cancel all other schedules and go apologize," adding, "Usually, when someone causes a scandal within the party, the Innovation Committee Chair steps up to manage the situation, apologize, and say sorry to the public."
He also urged Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party leader currently on vacation, to step in and resolve the situation. Jang said, "The appointing authority is Leader Lee. Now is not the time to be watching the D.P2 drama at the vacation spot," emphasizing, "He needs to return. At this point, Leader Lee should also visit the Korea Senior Citizens Association and apologize."
