A man in his 30s has been arrested by the police on charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and confining her in a car in downtown Seoul.
According to the police on the 28th, the Mapo Police Station in Seoul has arrested and is investigating Mr. A (31) on charges of confinement, assault, and drunk driving.
Mr. A is accused of strangling and grabbing the collar of his ex-girlfriend Ms. B near Hapjeong Station on Subway Lines 2 and 6 in Mapo-gu at around 6:43 p.m. the previous day, and forcibly putting her into his car.
The police responded to a report that "a man was strangling a woman and putting her into a car," and at around 7:15 p.m., they found Mr. A’s car parked near Sangsu Station on Subway Line 6 and arrested him in the act. Ms. B is reported to have not been seriously injured.
Immediately after his arrest, Mr. A’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at a level warranting license cancellation (0.08% or higher), leading to an additional charge of drunk driving (violation of the Road Traffic Act).
It was also found that Mr. A had previously been investigated by the police for dating violence and stalking against Ms. B.
The police plan to decide whether to apply for an arrest warrant after further investigation of Mr. A.
