Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it has established and will implement a comprehensive ESG administrative promotion plan to advance as a sustainable city.
ESG refers to the non-financial factors of companies: Environment, Social, and Governance. It has emerged as a major topic in corporate management and recently, active efforts have been made to adopt it in the public sector with a focus on social value.
In line with this trend, Eunpyeong-gu has developed a comprehensive promotion plan to establish suitable key tasks and administrative infrastructure for each ESG sector: Environment, Social, and Governance. A total of 31 projects have been selected as key tasks, and focused management will begin in areas such as promotion, education, and public-private cooperation.
In the Environment (E) sector, 11 projects have been selected as key tasks to realize carbon neutrality and implement a resource-circulating city, Eunpyeong. The projects include ▲introducing a greenhouse gas reduction-aware budget system ▲creating a carbon-neutral pilot street ▲operating Eunpyeong Green MoaMoa ▲and conducting a campaign to reduce 100g of waste per household per day.
In the Social (S) sector, 13 projects aimed at building a social safety net will be promoted. Key projects include ▲making Eunpyeong a happy place for single-person households ▲creating Eunpyeong-style ESG jobs ▲forming and operating a citizen safety guardian group, among others.
In the Governance (G) sector, 7 projects focusing on activating resident participation and transparency have been selected as key tasks. These include ▲operating the policy proposal phone service #Tonghaera Eunpyeong ▲the Volunteer Project by My Side ▲and realizing a transparent Eunpyeong through communication and empathy.
The district will also work on discovering ESG village agendas at the dong (neighborhood) level. Along with promoting an ESG idea contest, efforts will be intensified to build an Eunpyeong-style ESG administrative system based on public-private cooperation. ESG capacity-building education will also be provided for public officials, social economy enterprises, and chambers of commerce.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “This is a time when resilience that can leap higher after COVID-19 is needed. We will do our best to lead ESG administration at the center of recovery and change in Eunpyeong-gu.”
