The 'bread' and 'roses' symbolizing International Women's Day carry messages demanding improvement of unfair treatment of female workers and suffrage rights. The executives of the Women's Association gathered early in the morning to bake warm bread and carefully package it for delivery on the day.
Kwon Won-sook, President of the Seongbuk-gu Women's Association, who hosted the event, expressed, “I am glad to share meaningful giving with the members of the women's association on International Women's Day, and I hope society becomes one where not only women but everyone is equal and happy.”

I will work harder to go out to the field and care to create a ‘Happy Seongbuk for All’ by eliminating discrimination in daily life and fostering mutual consideration.”
Additionally, on the 8th, to commemorate the 115th International Women's Day, Seongbuk-gu held a screening event of the film 'Next Sohee,' which addresses youth labor issues in our society, for district employees, providing time to reflect on discrimination elimination and improvement measures.

After Cleaning, Holds Residents' Meeting to Listen to On-site Voices on Inconveniences
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, visited Yeomchang-dong on the 8th to personally clean rainwater drains and inspect hazards around school routes.
At 3 p.m., Mayor Kim, along with about 70 residents including community leaders and cleaning helpers, started cleaning from Yeomchang-dong rainwater pumping station, sweeping through alleys.
Walking along a 1 km section including roads around nearby apartment complexes and school routes of Yeomgyeong Elementary and Middle Schools, he opened rainwater drain covers and removed accumulated leaves, cigarette butts, and other debris inside.
He also inspected hazards such as broken sidewalk blocks and malfunctioning traffic lights to ensure children’s safe commute to and from school.
As a measure to prevent illegal disposal of cigarette butts, a major cause of flooding, no-smoking messages were painted around rainwater drains.
After the village cleanup, an impromptu residents' meeting was held in a free atmosphere without formalities. Various suggestions were raised, including school route safety, traffic congestion issues, and flood prevention during the rainy season.
Mayor Kim said, “We will do our best to actively reflect the valuable opinions shared by residents after review by relevant departments. We will also frequently create opportunities for open communication to hear voices from the field.”
He added, “I deeply thank the residents who participated despite bad weather to ensure safety and environmental maintenance in our village. We will continuously manage to prevent flooding damage caused by illegally discarded cigarette butts and other trash accumulating in rainwater drains during the rainy season.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Clean Village Campaign,’ initiated by Mayor Kim’s idea in October last year, is a clean campaign where the mayor cleans the village directly with residents. Starting this year, it focuses not only on maintaining a clean residential environment but also on residents' safety by inspecting hazards on school routes.
