Daegu City to Foster 100 Blockchain Specialized Companies by 2030

On the 8th, Daegu City will actively promote various service discoveries and support projects such as establishing a blockchain technology development environment, fostering specialized companies, and creating an industrial ecosystem to realize a transparent and safe digital innovation leading city and Blockchain Daegu.

Blockchain has recently gained increased utility and necessity as it can secure trust among participants in a Web 3.0-based online environment due to the surge in non-face-to-face digital demand. It is currently used in various fields such as driver’s licenses, identity verification, and digital assets (NFT, STO). Blockchain is known as a digital ledger technology that uses cryptographic technology to securely distribute and share a series of data blocks connected in a chain structure among participants, making tampering impossible.

Daegu City will build a mainnet platform capable of operating blockchain services. Through this, the city plans to cultivate capabilities for blockchain technology implementation, foster regionally specialized industries through service convergence, secure regional industrial competitiveness based on data, and establish a unique ecosystem foundation differentiated from other local governments.

Additionally, various support projects will be carried out from demand discovery to verification to foster blockchain specialized companies. Daegu City will promote creative idea discovery and market entry support projects such as operating the ABB Industry-Academia-Research Alliance, ABB Hackathon competitions, ABB regulatory sandbox support, ABB early market entry support, and ABB testbed demonstration projects. Through this, the city plans to activate startups and establish a full-cycle enterprise fostering system to nurture more than 100 local blockchain specialized companies by 2030.

Furthermore, through a Ministry of Science and ICT public contest project, a regional blockchain technology innovation support center will be established. The center will support technology utilization, technology development, and commercialization by providing corporate fostering spaces, development environment creation, cooperation network exchanges among companies, and talent cultivation through employment and startup linkage. It is expected to serve as a hub for fostering the regional blockchain industry in the future.

In addition, a regional digital asset fostering project will be promoted, including NFT production and support, business model development, and promotion of regional digital assets for local cultural resources with public appeal and historical value such as tangible and intangible cultural heritage, art collections, and archive materials. Through this, Daegu plans to revitalize the digital asset market, build a foundation for enterprise fostering, improve negative perceptions of digital assets, and actively promote various digital content and NFT-utilized business models to lead regional digital asset fostering projects.
