This Year, a Total of 8,648 People Trained

The National Fire Agency announced on the 8th that a total of 6,986 people participated in and completed the "Fire Technician Training and Certification Education" conducted last year to improve the practical skills of fire technicians.

Fire technicians who are engaged in or wish to engage in fire facility businesses (design·construction·supervision) used to receive fire technician certification booklets and fire technician career booklets as long as they met certain qualifications, academic background, or experience before the enforcement of the law. However, now they must complete the relevant education to be issued the fire technician certification and career booklets.

The education is provided by the Korea Fire Facility Association, which has set up training centers in six locations across four regions including Incheon, and is broadly divided into three categories: ▲Training Education, ▲Certification (Promotion) Education, and ▲Design·Supervision Specialized Education. Depending on the method, Training Education and Certification (Promotion) Education are conducted through a mixed online and in-person course, while Design·Supervision Specialized Education is conducted online.

This year, the goal is to train a total of 8,648 people (1,423 in Training Education, 5,585 in Certification (Promotion) Education, and 1,640 in Design and Supervision Specialized Education), and those who wish to receive education can apply for their desired courses on the Korea Fire Facility Association’s comprehensive education system website.

Kim Seung-ryong, Director of the Equipment Technology Bureau at the National Fire Agency, said, “In the 2023 education program, we will do our best to improve the technical skills and professionalism of fire technicians by developing practical training equipment for smoke control facilities and advanced courses for design and supervision specialized education.” He added, “We expect these quality improvements to prevent poor construction of fire facilities and lead to public safety.”
