Busan Gijang-gun is recruiting students for the ‘2023 1st Term Gijang-gun Citizen University and Gijang-gun Citizen Language School’ for two days from the 8th to the 9th.
The ‘Gijang-gun Citizen University and Gijang-gun Citizen Language School’ is one of the ‘Lifelong Learning Culture Creation Projects’ aimed at providing lifelong learning opportunities to all residents, improving their quality of life, and enhancing regional competitiveness.
Since the project started in July 2011, a total of 32 terms of students have been recruited until the end of last year, and 747 local residents participated in the past year alone through various customized courses for residents.
This year, the ‘Gijang-gun Citizen University’ will operate three courses: ▲General Education Course ▲Humanities Course ▲5060 New Middle-aged Course.
The General Education Course offers a variety of classes ranging from hobby and cultural lectures such as calligraphy and guitar classes to certification courses, and humanities courses are provided to expose participants to various humanities elements in daily life and to enhance values.
In particular, the 5060 New Middle-aged Course is expected to provide opportunities to design the second act of life and create community contribution and learning-type jobs.
Also, the ‘Gijang-gun Citizen Language School’ offers 41 programs including language courses at various levels such as English, Japanese, and Chinese, as well as mobile video (phone) classes.
This term’s language school programs reflect diverse demands by offering travel language courses where students dreaming of overseas travel can learn expressions needed for travel, and certification courses preparing for official language tests (OPIc) for job seekers.
The courses will run for 10 weeks from May 27 to June 10, and anyone aged 20 or older residing in Gijang-gun as of the application date can apply. Workers employed in Gijang-gun can also apply for the Gijang-gun Citizen University, but employment verification is required.
Applications for the 1st term lifelong learning courses can be submitted online through the Gijang-gun Lifelong Learning website, and the successful applicants will be announced at 1 p.m. on the 13th. For more details, please refer to the Gijang-gun Lifelong Learning website or contact the Education and Youth Department’s Lifelong Education Team.
A Gijang-gun official said, “We hope to provide various course programs to residents full of passion for learning so that they can find the joy of lifelong learning,” and added, “We will continue to offer various customized educational courses reflecting residents’ demands such as language, humanities, and hobbies.”
