On the 2nd (local time), Statistics Korea announced that it has renewed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom statistical offices in New York, USA.
On the same day, Han Hoon, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, held a high-level bilateral meeting with Hanan Ahli, Director General of the United Arab Emirates Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, and renewed the "MOU for Cooperation in the Field of Statistics." The MOU is a follow-up measure to the agreement on "Cooperation in the Field of Statistics for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Evidence-Based Policy Promotion," reached during President Yoon Suk-yeol's state visit to the UAE in January. The agreement was made during the 54th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, held at the UN Headquarters from the 28th of last month to the 3rd of this month.
The agreement includes cooperation in sharing the latest statistical production methods, exchanging information on statistical legislation, and conducting training programs to mutually enhance technical and statistical capabilities. Statistics Korea evaluated that this MOU will enable domestic companies to secure detailed statistical data necessary for their overseas activities. Companies will be able to utilize these statistics when expanding abroad or establishing export strategies.
On the same day, Commissioner Han also signed an MOU with Ian Diamond, National Statistician of the United Kingdom, to promote cooperation in the field of statistics between the two countries. Statistics Korea and the UK Office for National Statistics agreed to share the latest statistical production techniques such as public-private data linkage, conduct joint projects, and dispatch personnel mutually to enhance the execution of cooperative projects.
