What is the No.1 New Year's Wish of Yangcheon Residents?

New Year's Yongwangsan Sunrise Event: 'Family Health' Tops Wishes Among 1,500 Participants

2nd Place: Financial Stability, 3rd Place: Employment and Exam Success, 4th Place: Romance and Marriage, 5th Place: Self-Development

Unique Wishes Catch Attention, Including Moving to a Home with Over 5 Hours of Sunlight and Making Close Friends

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Residents of Yangcheon-gu ranked 'health of family members' as their top wish for the Year of the Rabbit.

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) held a wish-writing corner for about 1,500 citizens during the Yongwangsan New Year's sunrise event on January 1st. Over 90% of participants earnestly wished for the health of their loved ones, including family.

The second most common New Year's wish was 'financial stability.' Wishes such as 'becoming wealthy,' 'business prosperity,' and 'winning the lottery' reflected a strong desire for monetary comfort to overcome difficult conditions like economic recession and rising prices.

The third wish was 'success in employment (job change) and exams.' Many wished to start the new year confidently by securing a job or changing jobs. Additionally, numerous examinees preparing for high school, university, and law school entrance exams hoped that the strong energy received at Yongwangsan would lead to their success.

Following these, 'romance and marriage' and 'self-development and exercise (diet)' ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Although not in the top ranks, many unique wishes drew attention. One elderly participant wrote a heartfelt wish: "Please let me move to a house with more than 5 hours of sunlight a day." There were also cute wishes from children, such as "Please make me rich in heart," "Help me make friends I can visit and empathize with," and "Please give me a transforming robot as a gift." Some wrote surprisingly mature wishes like "Please help our house sell so that my mom won't worry."

The 1,500 wish slips displayed in the district office lobby over the past week will be burned along with a traditional moon house during the Jeongwol Daeboreum event in February to ward off bad luck and pray for blessings.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "I wish health and good fortune fill every household in Yangcheon-gu this new year," adding, "Together with the residents, we will vigorously open a new 'Yangcheon Era' where the wishes of our citizens become reality."
