Joo Ho-young Floor Leader "Rep. Shin Should Quickly Reveal to the People"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The People Power Party will refer Democratic Party lawmaker Shin Hyun-young, who was involved in a controversy over riding a Doctor Car during the 'Itaewon Halloween Disaster' last October, to the National Assembly Ethics Special Committee.
On the morning of the 22nd, Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at an emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly, "Our party intends to refer (lawmaker Shin) to the Ethics Committee," adding, "Lawmaker Shin should promptly clarify to the public what happened."
Floor leader Joo urged, "It must be clearly revealed during the state audit process who first contacted and called the Doctor Car, how much time was wasted because of that, why her husband was taken on board, what happened at the scene, and why she left the site within just 15 minutes and moved elsewhere in the vehicle of the Minister of Health and Welfare."
He added, "The person who emphasized that the golden time of 4 minutes must not be missed actually caused the golden time to be eaten up by tens of minutes due to her own abuse of power. This is not something to hide. I hope she will openly explain to the public and take responsibility."
Seong Il-jong, chairman of the Policy Committee, also criticized, "Lawmaker Shin called the Doctor Car like a call taxi and used it for her political promotion," adding, "A doctor who shouted about the golden time of 4 minutes showed no regard for the preciousness of life when faced with political gain. This is true disgrace."
Lawmaker Shin was criticized for calling the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) 'Doctor Car' from Myongji Hospital to her home during the Itaewon disaster, riding it with her dentist husband, which delayed disaster response as they headed to the scene. In response, Shin offered to resign from the special committee for the state audit, but the controversy continues. There are even suspicions that when Shin left the disaster site using the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s official vehicle, senior ministry officials who intended to go to the National Medical Center at the time were unable to use the official vehicle.
