[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Minjae] The police have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 30s who is accused of driving under the influence and fatally hitting an elementary school student in a school zone.


On the 3rd, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that on the 2nd, they applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of causing death in a school zone and dangerous driving causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, as well as drunk driving.


Mr. A is accused of hitting and killing a third-grade student who was leaving school near an elementary school in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 4:57 p.m. the previous day. At the time, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was reportedly at the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).


The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
